Our Story
James Godsil founded Community Roofing & Restoration as "Community Roofing Collective" in 1975 when he left a career in academia as a teacher at Alverno College and the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Godsil made the career transition from academics to roofing and restoration contractor in an effort to better support his child and provide for his family.
He founded the roofing company with a vision to "build a network of self-managed artisan shops that worked together freely in collaboration." His goal was to renew the city of Milwaukee while maintaining the historical significance of older buildings. With that in mind, he developed a highly-qualified team of tradesmen that could do the job right while meeting the necessary standards to uphold historic preservation.
Since starting the Community Roofing business venture all the way back in 1975, Godsil stayed true to his early ambitions of maintaining the historical integrity of Milwaukee. He's collaborated with thousands of Wisconsin business owners and homeowners and restored numerous historical buildings over several decades.
Godsil eventually handed over the reins to Josh Fraundorf several years ago. Fraundorf is currently the managing owner. He's been in the roofing industry for more than 25 years himself and, since taking over as the owner, he's made it a priority to uphold Godsil's vision by providing roofing services of the highest quality.
Fraundorf met the founder, Godsil, while he was playing soccer at UW-Milwaukee back in 1996. The relationship between Godsil and Fraundorf grew as did the appreciation for the craftsmanship it takes to restore homes in the Milwaukee area. The two continued to work together and grow the business and partnerships until Fraundorf took over in 2014. Godsil is still very much involved in the company as both a salesman and a mentor.

Family Promise
Family Promise prevents and ends homelessness for families with children and helps them achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.
Working together, they provide temporary housing, meals, and services to thousands of family members annually. Family Promise mentors families at risk of experiencing homelessness. They teach financial literacy and help people find jobs and affordable housing. They also create programs to meet specific needs in their communities. Family Promise advocates for public policies that alleviate poverty and promote the economic stability of low-income families.
The South Milwaukee Knights of Columbus
The South Milwaukee Knights of Columbus are proud to support the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight- Wisconsin in its mission to honor our nations veterans with a life-changing trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials and experience a day of honor and thanks.
All of the proceeds from our Casino Night Fundraiser, Valentines for Vets, will be donated to the Stars and Stipes organization.
Community Clean-Up Milwaukee
In March, Community Roofing and Restoration is joining hands with volunteers from across Milwaukee for a community clean-up event. Armed with gloves, trash bags, and a shared commitment to environmental stewardship, our team will hit the streets to tackle litter, debris, and other eyesores in our neighborhoods. By coming together to clean up our streets, we're not just beautifying our surroundings; we're also fostering a sense of pride and unity among residents.

Wisconsin Hero Outdoors
Wisconsin Hero Outdoors (WHO) works with Veterans and First responders to aide in suicide prevention by utilizing the camaraderie of outdoor activities to address the physical and mental health challenges brought on by the stresses of service.
Lake Park
Lake Park has always been a cherished gathering place for Milwaukee families, and it holds a special place in our hearts at Community Roofing. That's why we're deeply committed to preserving Lake Park and its rich history for future generations. This year's Cirque du Lake Park, set for Saturday, September 7, is another step in that direction. Join us under the big tent outside Lake Park Bistro for a night of fun, food, and music from Frogwater, all while supporting the installation of historically inspired lampposts on the Ravine Road Concrete Footbridge—a project proudly supported by Community Roofing and Restoration. Together with Gallas Metalworks and Vanguard Sculpture Services, we're bringing a piece of Milwaukee's history back to life.
